Description
Twin three-lane bridges span the St. Clair River at the south end of Lake Huron. Opened in 1997, the second span is located south of the original bridge, which was opened almost 6 decades earlier, in 1938. Once the new bridge was finished, it served for all the traffic while the original was closed for renovations. Re-opened in 1999, the north span serves all U.S./westbound traffic and the Canada/eastbound traffic uses the newer, south span. The total traffic count for 1939, the first full year of operation, was just over 300,000. In 2008 the pair provided an international connection for nearly 5 million vehicles. The waterfront on both sides of the river attracts young and old year round.

Ann and Ginger, thank you so much for your comments on my Bluewater Bridges photo. Yes, Ginger it was taken from the Canadian side, near the casino.
